Bio

Beginning as campaign manager for the United Way of Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre, he worked with local businesses and organizations to strengthen workplace and corporate giving. During his tenure at the organization he was elevated to Director of Campaign Operations, and in that role, he helped implement an online giving platform and led digital data management efforts to increase organizational efficiencies. Matt then accepted an opportunity as Director of Development at Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania with a focus on diversifying funding streams during a time of organizational transformation. Prior to his time in non-profit development, Matt spent his career in radio: on air at 98.1 WHWK in Binghamton, NY, in production roles at 97.1 WBHT and as the initial midday personality at 93.7 WSJR both in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Other roles he's held in the community have included account executive at the Times Leader and Keystone Automotive and healthcare administration/vendor relations at CIGNA. Matt lives with his wife Kristie and their daughter GiGi and enjoys exercising by walking around his town as well as cooking, listening to music and chauffeuring GiGi to her varied social engagements.

Bio

Stephanie Miller, Pittston, joined the United Way as the Senior Program Manager.  Prior to joining UW, Miller worked at a local non-profit agency for 15 years and served as an advocate for people who struggle with housing issues and food insecurity.

In addition, Miller recently served as a board member of the Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency as well as sat on numerous housing coalitions and committees.

Bio

Barry Snyder, Clarks Summit, joined the United Way in February of 2020 as the Director of Community Outreach.  This is Snyder’s first position within the non-profit sector of NEPA, having previously held positions within the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre baseball franchise as the Sr. Director of Entertainment and Corporate Partnerships.

Snyder has done charity work through various organizations such as Allied Services’ Ryan’s Run, Vs. Cancer Foundation and multiple other organizations through the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

Bio

Terri Flowers, Old Forge, joined the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike as the PA MEDI Local Coordinator/Senior Program Manager.  Prior to joining the United Way, Flowers has worked in the non-profit sector for the last 11 years, serving the community as an advocate for people who struggle with Medicare costs and understanding their Medicare health benefits.  In addition, she served as a Medicare subject matter expert providing programmatic oversight and support to 17 local PA MEDI programs in the northeast region and 6 programs in the western region of Pennsylvania as a Regional Coordinator. 

Bio

Alvaro Garcia, Scranton, joined the United Way in August of 2021 as the RSVP Director.  Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, Garcia graduated from Lackawanna College in 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.  He became a loan specialist for a financial firm for a little over a year before joining the United Way of Lackawanna, Wayne & Pike.

Alvaro’s time with the United Way first began as an intern with the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program, where he helped prepare qualifying Lackawanna and Wayne County  residents’ tax returns.

Bio

Sue Youtz, Clarks Summit, was appointed Campaign Manager.  Youtz most recently served as Campaign Manager at United Way of Wyoming Valley and touts over six years of service to the non-profit here in NEPA. 

Before beginning in the philanthropic field, she was formerly an Executive Sales/ Marketing Manager in the Hospitality Industry.  Her primary responsibility was establishing and maintaining corporate accounts.

Youtz is on the Advisory Committee for Matthew’s Hope 4 Miracles, Chair of the CROP Hunger Walk for Abington Ecumenical Ministerium and Chair of Communications and Outreach at Countryside Community Church.
